German Junior Championships – Gold medals for Dahms and Meissner
Last weekend the 71st German Youth Championships took place in Berlin. The German capital, previously the venue of the German National Championships, seems to be a good place for the andro youngsters. Two gold medals as well as several silver and bronze medals were handed over to talents of the andro pro team. In the boys singles event for the first time lefthander Cedric Meissner won the title. In an intensive final he defeated the Meng Fan Bo with 4:2, driven by an urgent will to win. Meissner, feared in player circles mainly for his good serve and his enormous feeling, already survived the semi-final against Tom Eise in a match over seven sets before he could reach the final.
Also in the boys doubles event Meissner managed to win a medal with help of andro player Sven Hennig. However in doubles it was "only" the silver medal as they had to congratulate after a close final to Meng / Xu. Another successful andro player is Dominik Jonack. The chopper from Lower Saxony reached the semi-finals with his partner Nils Schulze.
Ann-Marie "Anni" Dahms was happy on Sunday afternoon about winning the gold medal in the girls doubles event. Alongside her partner Sina Henning she defeated the pairing Leonie Berger/Hannah Schönau in the final - Schönau is a member of the andro pro team for many years as well. For Anni Dahms winning the title is a very special experience, as the player from Brandenburg was able to win the gold medal in front of friends and family.
